[Dynagroove] Long weekend

Personally, I don't feel enough integrity is lost with DJs using CDs to
warrant bitching about them. The good goes ABOVE AND BEYOND the bad, so much
so it makes it a non issue. Yes, they aren't records, this we all know, but
none of the artistry is lost, you still have to cue up the cd and plan your mix
just as you do a record. Personally, any time I see a DJ reach for his CDs, I
always get amped as all get out. To think of all the music we all would have
been without if it weren't for CDs makes me cry and why would you want me to
cry, Matt? You can argue that we would have eventually heard the tracks once
they were released, but there are so many I have known and loved that HAVEN'T
been released. I am not talking about this DJ Smash fellow, I wasn't there.
But in defense of CDs, I am on that shit like white on rice. It might take a
bit to get used to, like when everyone went from making mix TAPES to mix CDs,
but learn it, live it, love it. Cuz you should.

My more than 2 cents, as always,

Sara

~*~ Ok, so I guess my weekend started on Thursday night.. and since I already
~*~
~*~ reviewed that shindig, on to Friday night. I was originally going to go to
~*~
~*~ Free Thinkin but decided to go to Prana in Pasadena, Joplin's thingy. To
~*~
~*~ listen to the homie Toddley play. It was my first time there. It was
~*~ definitly an Interesting crowd, more of the college type crowd, "there to
~*~
~*~ drink and oh hey look some sort of music is being played." Well anyways,
~*~
~*~ Toddley played a pretty damn good set, very nice programming and fluid
~*~ mixes.
~*~ I had to leave early, so I missed Joplin, but we all know how Joplin can
~*~
~*~ through down. On to Saturday night. I hit up "Balance" at the King King.
~*~
~*~ I have to say how much I love Sue, she's such a down to earth person, and
~*~
~*~ that it was messed up to see her so stressed from this, in my opinion
~*~ horrible DJ from New York, but i'll get to that in a moment. First on was
~*~
~*~ Kenny or Kemal, the resident DJ, he always, knows how to get the mood
~*~ going,
~*~ and has some pretty good skills as well. Next on was DJ Smash, from New
~*~
~*~ York, he had some dope ass tracks on CD's yes I said CDs, no records,
~*~ whatsoever. OK, off on a little tangent, but come on. Bringing just CDs
~*~ to
~*~ play. Yes I know, CDs are usually unreleased tracks, but shit what
~*~ happened
~*~ to the artistry of DJing. Ya you can play with the programming, but as for
~*~
~*~ myself comming to watch and listen to a DJ play, I want to see his true
~*~ skills. Besides from what I've heard it's not that difficult to use the
~*~ CDJs. But I'm not a DJ, and that's just what I heard. Well back to
~*~ Sarurday night, Smash ended at about 2:30 with some sloppy mixes, and the
~*~ CD
~*~ track before his last he didn't even mix in, he just moved the fader over
~*~ to
~*~ the other CD track that was playing. Thank god for Kenny, comming on back
~*~
~*~ again. Seriously, the last hour and a half of the night was the best.
~*~ Kenny, played if there was such a thing, "House Music's Best Hits!" It was
~*~ a
~*~ nice way to end the night. And as for Sunday, three nights of going out is
~*~
~*~ good enough for me.
~*~ Matt
