i also feel the need to add in my two cents
regarding CD usage during sets.

i think that this fully depends on the quality of
the DJ as a producer/DJ. programming is essential
to me, as is the quality of the mix. i am not a
trainspotter, so if they chose to intermittently
throw a CD in here or there. i have no problems.
hell, if Diz wants to mix two CDs together... i am
NOT complaining.

i think this fully depends on the DJs artistry. i
am apprehensive of complaining just yet. it it not
prevalant enough in the scene to get over the
fact that it means access to tracks not yet available
on vinyl.

>> ~*~ Ok, so I guess my weekend started on Thursday night.. and since I
>> already
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ reviewed that shindig, on to Friday night. I was originally going to go
>> to
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ Free Thinkin but decided to go to Prana in Pasadena, Joplin's thingy.
>> To
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ listen to the homie Toddley play. It was my first time there. It was
>> ~*~ definitly an Interesting crowd, more of the college type crowd, "there
>> to
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ drink and oh hey look some sort of music is being played." Well
>> anyways,
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ Toddley played a pretty damn good set, very nice programming and fluid
>> ~*~ mixes.
>> ~*~ I had to leave early, so I missed Joplin, but we all know how Joplin
>> can
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ through down. On to Saturday night. I hit up "Balance" at the King
>> King.
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ I have to say how much I love Sue, she's such a down to earth person,
>> and
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ that it was messed up to see her so stressed from this, in my opinion
>> ~*~ horrible DJ from New York, but i'll get to that in a moment. First on
>> was
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ Kenny or Kemal, the resident DJ, he always, knows how to get the mood
>> ~*~ going,
>> ~*~ and has some pretty good skills as well. Next on was DJ Smash, from
>> New
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ York, he had some dope ass tracks on CD's yes I said CDs, no records,
>> ~*~ whatsoever. OK, off on a little tangent, but come on. Bringing just
>> CDs
>> ~*~ to
>> ~*~ play. Yes I know, CDs are usually unreleased tracks, but shit what
>> ~*~ happened
>> ~*~ to the artistry of DJing. Ya you can play with the programming, but as
>> for
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ myself comming to watch and listen to a DJ play, I want to see his true
>>
>> ~*~ skills. Besides from what I've heard it's not that difficult to use the
>>
>> ~*~ CDJs. But I'm not a DJ, and that's just what I heard. Well back to
>> ~*~ Sarurday night, Smash ended at about 2:30 with some sloppy mixes, and
>> the
>> ~*~ CD
>> ~*~ track before his last he didn't even mix in, he just moved the fader
>> over
>> ~*~ to
>> ~*~ the other CD track that was playing. Thank god for Kenny, comming on
>> back
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ again. Seriously, the last hour and a half of the night was the best.
>>
>> ~*~ Kenny, played if there was such a thing, "House Music's Best Hits!" It
>> was
>> ~*~ a
>> ~*~ nice way to end the night. And as for Sunday, three nights of going out
>> is
>> ~*~
>> ~*~ good enough for me.
