Thanks to Cade for taking to time to share his views on the state of the LA
house scene.
I think its cool that he sticks his neck out there and states his opinion on
things, knowing it will probably not please everyone on this list, and/or
those that support his events. This type of discussion, addressing the problems,
is the first step in a resolution to the issue.
I think that club culture in general is suffering, and the house scene is but
a microcosm. I liken it to an 'awkward adolescent' stage of growth - a 'young
adult' scene is trying to find itself through trying times.
Aside from the social issues we face, there are also technological conflicts
taking place.
Digital music threatens to overtake vinyl in the clubs, to redefine our
medium and rob us of 20 years of 12" legacy. And the ever-shrinking 10 second
attention span of our plugged in, media-saturated culture is making it harder to
hold people's interest.
I think the challenge will be to re-connect with people, while welcoming in
new ones to share in the riches of our culture. And to make the experience
exciting for everyone. The last part will be the hardest, as the newness of this
kind of dance dynamic may never be re-created. The music will be a key part in
this. Unite and excite!
Hopefully these tough times are the conflict through which a metamorphosis
will occur, bringing our way of life back stronger and more vibrant than ever!
>From the coccoon comes the butterfly.
To quote an old house track that still rings true, "Dreams do come true...
you know you've got to have them- you know you've got to be strong."
Thanks for reading this, I welcome your thoughts on any of the above.
