I hope you know what you're in for...Have you ever seen Ben Watt before?
I love the work he's done with EBTG, as well as his Lazy Dog compilations
with Jay Hannan. As a dj, however,I think he absolutely sucks. Now, I'm the
type of person where I love hearing a dj/producer drop his own music. I've
seen Mr Scruff twice, Mark Farina numerous times, and yes, I've gone to hear
Ben Watt twice. Each time he was out here I was disappointed. The mixing was
minimal, barely beatmatched, and he'd often just fade into and out of each
track. Add to that he and Jay were switching off after EACH track with
little or no continuity to the flow... it was really bad. I go out to hear
good music, but mostly to dance. It's really hard to do when the djs keep
changing tempo and you can hear dead air between tracks.
I'd much rather pay to hear someone else spin the tracks that he produces.
That being said, hopefully you can win tickets from KCRW (like we did last
year) and he's much better this time around.
