So maybe half the events I have been to were awesome in their own way but I must say 2 events that pop out are
1-dynagroove party- i can't remeber when exactly but there was a fake cop car parked in front and a billion sweaty dancer jackin it straight to hell when I got in...I was seriously scared for my life...I wasn't that comfortable with the tempurature but I distintctly remember or recalling later that the house was funnk'n insane(there was this track with a funky guitar rift i try to play it on my guitar all the time) ...i mean i have n't heard shit like that played since...i do believe heather was playing that night along with diz...i think...oh yeah i rember walking around and just being mezmerized by the crowd I mustve looked out of place or uncomfortable but just then a smiling individual touched my shoulder and smiled...it was uphill from there...oh and the second room...my god the second room...out of this world
2. the very first time i ever enountered house was at DYMK-i remember being cohereced into taking sugar cubes and along with my 10 friends wait/partied/socializing in line with a grip of friendly people(waiting in line was where the party was at) ...2.5 hours laterl we were greeted in a sweaty room with congoes with lot o hands in the air..i thought i was in heaven i'm sure it had a lot to do with the cubes...but it was the friendliest atmosphere i had ever encountered...

Ok so I have been thinking abouut all my days of going out and partying in
this city. There are always certain events or happenings that come to my
mind that effected me. Some of these are defining moments in the Los
Angeles house music scene. SO I figure why not name some of them see if
anyone else has some of these memories?
Here are some of the most defining moments for me in the LA House music
scene
1) After a few parties Melodic blows up.
I had been going to Melodic since their first parties. The always
featured Mark Farina playing house music and some dope ass acid jazz. The
earliest Melodic's featured random DJs such as Daniel from moontribe, Eric
Davenport, Alex Hyde, and Juss Derrick. After a few small parties with a
smaller crowd suddenly BAM 700 people show up. I remember squeezing my
way into the Bay and Matoe loft and it just being packed shoulder to
shoulder. Dancing was not going to happen. The crowd was louder then the
sound system. It was insane.
2) Jeno and Doc play at Bang the Drum
Anyone remember the hollywood sound stage? That venue rocks! I bet we
could still use it. I(ts just going to be stupid expensive. This party
was the party I realised Jeno was a god. Although I think nothing of him
now around 1995 - 1998 Jeno was hands down one of the slickest smooth djs
around. This party was one of my favorites in LA at the time. Thrown by
none other then Sue Dred herself. Another cool fact about this party?
Jamie Thinnes amde his debute in the back room with DJ Alison.
3) Diz Debutes @ Melodic
Diz and IZ play melodic at a downtown warehouse space. The party got
busted at around 2 but most of us were smart and got there early. The
warehouse was packed. I remember walking in and dancing as soon as I was
in the door. I hooked up with the natural Rythmn guys and we were blown
away. Most people thought they were listening to Mark Farina but we were
actually listening to Diz. this was the first time I heard "Shelter" by
brand new heavies. In fact this set is up on my webpage:
http://www.dynagroove.com/mp3/diz_liveatmelodic.mp3
Obviously this night changed my life.
3) Release Wednesdays
Release started out with Juan Nunez and Steve Loria in a little club
called Checka (now called temptist) it was a thin crowd but we were
dedicated. After a few weeks it moved to The Firehouse in west LA. This
is when the club was at it's best. Release is a very special club to me
because it was my first debute. Jeno got fogged in and I got to come down
and play records. I did not play all thatgood and I was nervous as hell.
But I survived the night.
4) Dynagroove goes public
After several loft parties I actually get the balls to try and do a real
party. The first dynagroove I lost about 2k but the party was good. We
had a decent turn out but learned a lot about the business. The spanish
kitchen was a great venue and we had an insane line-up. Diz, John
Howard, Natural Rythmn, and Cade (thas me).
5) Los Angeles discovers Diz
The third dynagroove I managed to score King Britt. it was $15 with Jamie
Thinnes and Diz and King Britt playing 3 hour sets. Everyone walked into
this party singng "King britt, King Britt, woooo" but they left with Diz
on their minds. Although Diz had played a few parties in LA already. I
really feel this was the party that Los Angeles really awoke to Diz.
Some random thoughts
Ashley Beetle playing bang the drum and sucking ass. Sue kicked him off
after 35 minutes. Steve Loria to save the day
Within a year all the breaks, trance, and techno DJs changed there DJ
names to their first and last names and started playing house... bout time they
woke up! ahahaha
The much anticipated Mark Farina / Miguel Miggs party getting busted.
sucks
The riots at Circa (forgot the year)
Funky Techno Tribe
DJs that became born again.. that was hilarrious.
I could go on and on. But those are just some things that come to mind.
I was wondering if anyone else has some similar things that come to mind?
