[Dynagroove] promoters/promotion

This is generally the rule @ focus.

Bring your flyers in and promote all you want, but we discourage putting
them all over the damn place because the owner said if we want to keep
allowing flyer we have to pick them up @ the end of the night...so it's
a pain in the ass.

There are 2 conditions though. If it's on a Tuesday, we just can't let
it happen, I mean come on? It's like "Here let me try to shut down your
night as best I can" It's just rude in my opinion to try and flyer
somebody's weekly w/ your weekly flyers. I figure fri & sat have more
problems with this than Tuesdays.

2nd condition is that you have to let us flyer your spot. And I don't
give a crap if the "Venue" doesn't let flyers inside. You're the
promoter for that night and you either explain to them what needs to be
done for your event to come inside the doors of that venue or your not
flyering our club (IE letting the clubs that you flyered @ come and
promote @ your club).

Other than that most of the promoters know it's cool to flyer @ focus &
most of you do. One word of advice though, you guys waste way too many
flyers just putting them on tables.

The ONLY way it's remotely effective is if you get there EARLY in the
night and you are there before people start dancing and getting into the
night. It's dark in focus and people don't pick up wet nasty flyers off
the tables. It just doesn't happen. It's a waste. Take your time to talk
to people and make friends, it's a way more fun, effective, less messy
way to promote. As a rule of thumb I try and just use flyers for
directions :-)

Those are my 2 cents.

hey just curious...

how many promoters out there allow other promoters to come pass out
flyers
on their nights?

(and this is excluding events the same night of...or whatever...that's
pretty much all accepted etiquette)

the reason i ask is that lately it seems, us promoters are being limited
or
completely prevented from probably the very best way to get the word out
about our nights...hand to hand flyer promotion.

now i know the internet rox and all that jazz, but there are SOME people
out
there (yes, the horror) that do not rock the internet on the constant
like
so many of us.

i cant tell you how many instances i have found myself at the doors of
my
peers' ventures being told to leave my flyers in the car. (in varying
degrees of friendliness, i add)

we do, and always will, have an open door policy at electric and gravity
to
promoters. we respect the energy and effort involved in being out there
night after night...only getting a short time to chat and hopefully
dance at
some very fun nights before moving on...but mostly, being the mighty
footsoldiers responsible for gathering up new recruits.

so my question to all of you who dont allow promotion:

what's the deal? is it the club owners? is it fear that your crowd will
know there are other choices? not into cleaning up the mess? i am
genuinely
curious...

for me, hell, i just clean all the flyers up at the end of the
night...scoop
em into the can and they's gone.

...no biggie

well besides when the overzealous flyer pitcher comes in and veritably
baptises the room in some form of paper saturated shrine of excess...i
mean,
really...if the club only holds a hundred people...and you only see
fifty in
there....why on earth would you toss down like four hundred flyers on
every
available surface?

PEOPLE!!! THE TREES!!!!

aside from that small rant...promote on! you are always welcome at
electric
and gravity. spread the word, the love, stay and dance awhile...what
have
you. we like it that way. keep up the good work!
