Hey Joey,
Good point but not entirely fair. You're comparing a week of partying at an
established event where the biggest names in dance music, as well as
promotional organizations, come down to throw parties, and then every partier in the
world swoops in for the sole purpose of....partying!! Of course, under these
conditions, the "energy" is going to be greater than any one event in
LA...people are essentially on vacation there. AND don't forget the amount of drugs
that are being consumed. I saw people completely out of their minds at 4:00 PM
at the Kent hotel pool, and it was fun, but it doesn't mean that they are
somehow "intrinsically" more energetic than anyone. In fact the music wasn't
particularly very good at that exact moment. They just popped more pills and it
was hitting them just at that time, basically. ; )
Think of it this way: Brits who party at IBIZA during summer say Miami WMC
partiers look like zombies to them. Or how about this way: if we moved WMC
to Los Angeles beaches during summer, how would the intensity at the parties be
then? People from all over the world will go back home raving about some
Dynagroove party that was the best thing they had ever experienced!!
Now comparing the regular parties at one city to another, that would be fair.
And in that department, I'd say LA is still lacking, compared to NY, San
Fran, Chicago. But it's not too shabby either. For example, I heard very good
things about a "Gravy" party, know anything about that? =)
As far as a sound, at least LA has one and everyone else seems to be picking
up on it. What was that crappy flowery Miami breakbeat I heard every now and
then over there? sheeesh!!
See you soon, Joey (hit me up privately re: some biz talk).
Imad.
