Whew!
After spending about a week in Tejas, my drive back to Lost Angeles seemed
longer than it ever had. From the land of icy winds and frozen asphalt to the
land of pounding thunder? It was a nice and wet welcome home to the city of
lost angels. I knew that new year was gonna be monumental when there were
flashes of light in the West! Lightning! Not sure where to start, but I might
as well get to the good stuff.
Last year I spent my new years countdown in a fucking box outside of the
Sports Arena. It sucked. Although I tried to have a good time and appreciate
what I had and all that jazz, I so wanted to be stranded in a sea of smiling,
dancing, raving mad people. This year, I got exactly that. I had expected to
be working way through midnight this year as well, but somehow I managed to
get "off" about ten minutes before midnight. My best friend David and I
skipped into GIANT like little girls.
At the start of the 10 second countdown, we were in the middle of the John
Digweed crowd. We said hello and HAPPY NEW YEAR to a grip of strangers then
skipped to the house tent. I pretty much stayed here for the next four hours
workin' it like my ass was on fire. Mark Farina was on it all night, but that
is to be expected......right?
I have to say that GIANT this year was OFF THE HOOK! Big parties are not for
everyone, but IMAGINE partying on the street next to a huge skyscraper
downtown. RIDICULOUS!!!!!! I have to admit that I had my doubts. Last
year's GIANT NYE was a bit of a fiasco. From what I heard, you could not get
into the rooms and the Bonaventure hotel became somewhat of a labrynth for
everyone. Well, this year they did it RIGHT. SO RIGHT!!! We all love our
underground, but sometimes a party where there is something for everyone is SO
MUCH BETTER. Yeah, we've all seen Mark Farina in a crowded warehouse, but how
many can say they've seen him in the middle of Hope St. in Downtown LA. Those
few thousand of us have something new to brag about.
The best part of GIANT was the crowd. SO MANY PEOPLE! This rather charming
homie bumped into me and apologized and said, "Damn, i keep bumping into
people." I said back to him, "It's all good. For every person that you
accidentally bump into, someone else bumps into you and says hello for no
reason and wishes you well." It was awesome to have trains of people going by
and giving you a hug or a pat of the back or a smile and just simply saying
hello. About every five minutes you met someone new. These sort of random
acts of goodwill and happiness are what made the night for me. No nose up
snobbery in my new year!
Now it's time to call out those scenesters and their (not) gay boyfriends that
were talking shit. FUCK YOU! I AM ridiculous, no doubt! REEEEEEE-DICULOUS!!!
I have a ridiculously good sense of hearing too, biotch. And I dance like that
cuz i LOVE it and it's in me. What's inside you?
So yeah, GIANT gets an A PLUS. Some homies that went to Doc Martin said it
was super duper as well. I had planned to make it to Circus on Saturday, but
my body was sore and needed to not be out in the rain. Any reviews? What
about the Barry Weaver party? Freethinking?
my best,
Aaron
