Well he's always been playing hip-hop (both vocal and instrumental)
along with the Mushroom Jazz stuff for as long as I can remember...
though definitely seems to be a lot more [vocal] hip-hop on the last MJ
cd he put out. Maybe just part of the concept for that mix (I can't say
about live performances, but only vol 5 of the CD series seems to be
made up of mostly vocal tracks, based on the track listings).

I've only heard a few of the CDs, but I had the vol. 11/12 mixtape a
while ago (maybe showing my age as well :>), and he played "Speak Ya
Clout" by Gang-Starr at the end - probably one of the best moments on
the tape.

I have to say that while I respect him tremendously, I've only heard
Farina really blow me away a couple of times - kind of hit or miss. Then
again, it's probably been years since I've seen him at all. I would
definitely like to get a chance to see him play all downtempo stuff,
especially in a bar / non-club type setting.
