he's been getting progressively more hiphop on the
last few mixes. there's a different vibe to what he's
putting on than "acid-jazz/downtempo" stuff, and i
don't just mean the "vocal" hiphop--he's been using
instrumentals by producers like *pete rock.* it's not
as musical as the other stuff--and not very
interesting imo.

on the first mj compilation there was a track by
j-live--long before anyone was talking about him
(respect!) i guess my point is that the earlier stuff
hiphop was just ONE element of what was
represented--it didn't sound like a hiphop mixtape
(now it does.)

while i can't argue with what you do or don't want to
see, the idea of hearing him play a *non-house* set in
a *non-club* setting reminds me of why i'm still
uncomfortable with the term "downtempo"--it gets
perceived as "chill music."

what *i* would like to see (while we're wishing on a
star) is farina play a TRUE mushroom jazz set in a
dance setting and have people go off to it WITHOUT him
turning into a hiphop dj (it can be done.) with his
skill and experience, i don't understand why he has to
segregate the music and it would be so refreshing to
hear an american that big (several brits are known for
it) truly *mix* music: acid-jazz/hiphop/house (not
necessarily in that order.)

could i get a cherried out laptop too, santa?
