Hey Sami,
Thank you so much for your review. As one the resident DJ's for Focus, I
just thought I would respond to you and let you know that we are fully aware
of the problems that happened at the Miguel Migs party.
This was the first event that Josh (the main promoter that does the Focus
events) had done at Russell's. With a lack of good venues and a plethora of
over-played venues in the county, Josh had been looking for a new venue to
do events at. Going into un-established music venue can be hard, and this
was a prime example of finding out the hard way. Josh met with the venue
owner Sunday morning to discuss the problems we had. He has agreed to fix
all of these before we do another event there.
The issue of the sound going out was due to a problem with the venue's
electrical system. I know how infuriating it can be from a DJ point of
view. The venue was not aware of they would run into this problem, but has
already contacted an electrician to remedy it. For future events, we'll be
taking extra precautions by having some sort of a back up system in place.
I have to agree with you when it comes to the bar. The lack of bartenders
and their experience was definitely not acceptable. I had problems myself
getting drinks. I think the venue owner did not believe us when we told him
the size of the crowd that were expecting. For our next event, there will
be plenty of experienced bartenders in the main bar as well as smaller
satellite bars set up selling beer and water (possibly a full bar).
In regards to the second area, we felt that doing a second area would be
good to ensure that all of the Focus regulars get to hear the full spectrum
of music that they are accustomed to. Once I had arrived at the venue, I
was concerned with the amount of sound bleed coming from the main room.
Unfortunately, it did play a factor in people's enjoyment. I'm not sure
exactly what Josh has discussed with the venue owner, but something will be
done whether that is a sound curtain, the sound set up differently, or no
music in the second room.
I know that all of these factors made your night not so enjoyable. For
that, I am sorry. I'm sure that Josh is bummed that you didn't have a good
night either. Just know that we are working with the venue owner to fix
these issues. We've been rather lucky to not experience these issues in the
past with Focus events. I hope that you can understand that these things
happen to even the best promoters. I guess it was our turn. Hopefully
you'll give Orange County another chance. Good things are happening here
(as well as in LA) and there are some really good promoters that strive to
make each event better than the last.
Thank you again for all of your honest criticism. Without it, our events
would fail to progress.

Subject: [Dynagroove] Review of Miguel Migs in Orange County
Hey Everyone,
First off, let me say that I am only writing this review because I feel like
it is needed. I am not trying to be a hater here, I am just calling it like
I see it.
This event was atrocious. As if the one hour drive from L.A. wasn't bad
enough, things got worse as soon as we stepped into this venue in Orange
County.
First off, the sound went completely dead on Miguel Migs about 5 minutes
after he stepped up to the decks. This was the first of about 5 sound
failures throughout the night.
Secondly, the idea to have a separate house area from the one Miguel was
playing at had to be one of the worst ideas EVER! Guys, you have MIGUEL
effing MIGS, there really is no need to have separate DJs in a second area,
especially when there is no real separation between the two areas. What
should have been done was to route the sound from the main room into the
side room to make for a nice warm atmosphere throughout the venue. Instead,
we suffered with clashing house sounds from the left and the right while we
stood at the bar forever to get our drinks, which leads me to my next point.
In all of my years as a HouseHead, I have never seen a more incompetent bar
staff than the one I saw last Saturday. It took us literally 40 minutes to
get a drink. I'm not exaggerating, either. Meanwhile, because of the fact
that the bar is located conveniently between both areas, we had to suffer
the agonizing pain of listening to 2 house rooms with us standing in the
middle. House on the left, house on the right, none of it matched and it
was all noise. I felt like my ears were going to start bleeding. I
literally had to plug my ears with my fingers a few times because it hurt so
bad. Like I mentioned, the bar staff was incredibly slow and incompetent.
I could have pounded a beer faster than these people were pouring them. It
was as if they had Wednesday's restaurant lunch staff working the bar on a
packed Saturday night. Anyone else who was there can vouch that the bar was
a nightmare. It wouldn't have been so bad if we were only listening to ONE
DJ, but the
fact that we had to stand there for 40 minutes to get a drink while doing
major damage to our eardrums (and souls) made the entire event a complete
and utter debacle. Standing in line for more than 10 minutes for a drink is
understandable. Standing at the bar for 40 minutes is ridiculous.
Once we finally got some drinks and headed to the main room, the music was
great and Miguel was awesome as he usually is (despite several more sound
failures). Unfortunately by this point in the night, it was too late. My
friends and I were pretty bitter and the fact that there was no INS AND OUTS
made things even worse.
I'm sorry to say it but this party fell waaaay short. Fumble-time.
Needless to say, that's the first and last time I head to Orange County for
a "House Party." I don't care if it's Mark Farina, Miguel Migs, or Derrick
Carter, this party was lame. Sorry to be so harsh guys, but you dropped the
ball on this one and you took my $17.50 to the bank without even stepping up
to make sure you party was legit. It's great that you guys have the money
to bring Miguel down to O.C. but it's pointless if you don't know how to
throw a proper house party.
