ME: The line in question went like this:
"At the time, I was feeding a stray cat named Jackie on my back steps.
I am still feeding that same stray cat named Jackie every evening,
plus an array of other stray cats, possums and even -- my lady friend
claims, though I haven't seen it -- one raccoon. The way the comic
book industry's going, I expect to look out there some evening and see
a gaggle of inkers at the bowl."
What that meant was that many folks in the comic book business are
starving these days. All the companies are either downsizing or going
out of business and there is massive unemployment. You'd be amazed
how many talented folks have called me recently, asking if I knew of
any work. Inkers have it worst of all because their skills are less
easily transferred to other fields.
