>>>> It's a given that there are unprincipled cads out there who use
religion of whatever type for their own personal agendas. We might disagree
on just WHO is misusing it and who is "following God's will", but I didn't
see him mention a specific person or group either
The following is is not intended as adding fuel to the fire but merely an
example of the seemingly increasing speed to which our world seems to be
imploding on itself....
I received my annual renewal from our house Insurance company this morning
and having half an hour spare I read the 'small print' that accompanied
notification of a change in one of the policy conditions. In addition to the
normal exclusion of damage resulting from acts of war, riots and terrorist
acts... there was a paragraph that re-defined what my Insurance company
considers as 'terrorism'.
"Terrorism is defined as any acts or acts including, but not limited to:a)
the use or threat of force and/or violence and/or b) harm or damage to life
or property......caused or occasioned by any person(s) or group(s) of
persons, or so claimed, in whole or part, for political, religious,
ideological or similar purposes."
Well I thought.... that's interesting. So as I had another half an hour to
spare - I phoned my insurance company and eventually managed to speak with a
very helpful guy in the department who deals with enquiries regarding
exclusions.
I suggested a theoretical situation to him, where a person (or persons) who
wasn't of the same race or religion as ourselves, threw a brick through one
of our windows and set fire to our house, thus destroyed everything we own.
This person (or persons) then claim that it was because they were
fundamentally opposed to our race and/or religion... Would my Insurance
company pay out ?
The answer after a great deal of bluster was "No."
Go figure....
