I think part of the problem is often people get signatures under false
pretenses (claiming to be devotees before rushing off the sell an autograph
or sketch on E-Bay), One solution is to charge for such services. Another is
to do as Sergio has and limit how many items they will sign. This also
addresses the fan or dealer who expects a creator to sign a whole stack of
comics. And trust me it has been known to happen.
