It has been, by some. And, I think there are a few "download for a price" 
sites, where royalties ARE paid to the appropriate persons/companies. It may get 
to a point where you can sign on to, say, Sony, and pay to download whatever 
your fav artist has produced-- and leave off the stuff you don't want. Might be 
some quality issues-- I would think that pro recording equipment would 
producer a better CD, tape, whatever than a personal desktop computer. And for those 
who pay for online time by the minute, it may not "pay" to do it yourself.

By the way, I've never downloaded ANY music, "free" or not. Nor movies. 
Haven't ordered stamps on-line, either....  I don't watch TV, so I haven't even 
recorded shows on my VCR. My kids now... that's a different story, but since I 
make them buy their own tapes, they record over older recordings a lot
