Hi,

Driving from the Bay Area to San Diego is certainly doable. Remember, it's
dicey, timewise, to get out of the Bay Area and once you reach Valencia (Magic
Mountain) all bets are off as to what actually happens on the freeway through
LA. The middle stretch is a breeze through the Central Valley, quick
driving... but, it is easily one of the most boring stretches of road anywhere, no
real topographic changes, no towns, and lots of the farms and a few scattered
hotel/fast food/gas stations complexes, so it's long and boring. I live in the
middle between the two regions and am familiar with the drive. It's long, the
urban stretches are thick with traffic and the rural stretch is boring. Is it
worth the drive probably, but the airport in San Diego is less than two miles
away from the convention center and Southwest would be easier! Make sure, if
you drive down try not to hit LA in the morning and don't get surprised if
the traffic just dies, since the carrying capacity is not sufficient. Plus,
you'll have problems parking in downtown San Diego as well! Good Luck! Scott
