Hi folks,
Congratulations and heartfelt envy to all you lucky souls who managed to make it to WonderCon.
I'm generally known as Ferg (except to my mother and the tax office, one of whom calls me "Darling") and have been lurking here for a while enjoying the scenery. For quite some time I thought that most of you were standing upside down which seemed like perfectly reasonable, Groo-like behaviour. After a while I realised that it's just because I'm reading this in Australia. More precisely, in beautiful Adelaide which (for those of you playing at home) is approximately in the middle down the bottom.
I started collecting Groo with the first Marvel/Epic issue (which suddenly seems like an awfully long time ago) and am the kind of fanboy much-loved by comic shop owners who has a standing order for anything drawn by Sergio or written by Mark (although I've had to be firm and draw the line at things created by moustachioed cartoonists who bear only a passing resemblance to senor Aragones or are merely based on allegedly true stories about someone who once ate cheesedip).
My only claim to Groo fame is having a letter published in Groo Grams (but I can't remember what number, it could be somewhere in the late 90s but may well be over 100). I must admit to being tempted to pull out all my comics and check but time will not permit.
Sorry to the purists but this is the point at which we veer off-topic. Feel free to drift off to another post now. For anyone who's still around, I'm looking for some help of a non-Groo-related kind although, in my defence it was inspired by something I read on Mark's POV website (http://www.povonline.com/Groo%20Card.htm#Address for those keeping score). As noted before, I live "Down Under" which is generally a wonderful thing. What it isn't wonderful for is:
* purchasing things that are only available in the US (for obvious reasons)
* purchasing several small things from different vendors on the US (because postage is prohibitive).
I'm looking to find what Mark eloquently described as "some American friend" who is willing to act as an occasional "Post Buddy". Maybe once or twice or year. The idea is, I will buy some stuff from various online sources over a period of a few weeks and have it all posted to someone in the US who will collect it and then pack it up into a big box (or a couple of smaller ones) and find out how much it will cost to ship it to me. I'll then send through money to cover postage and packing and paypal fees and my Post Buddy will send me the stuff. I'm primarily interested in books & CDs that are hard to get or just ridiculously expensive here but my immediate concern is to try and pick up a set of very cool Mega Bloks Dragons toys which are currently on sale at Kohl's--for my 6-year-old son of course! (http://www.kohls.com/products/product_page_vanilla0.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=69429697&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=19975&bmUID=1083542947591).
Anyone out there able to help? You'll need to be:
* A Groo fan. I need to know I'm dealing with someone who has impeccable taste.
* Someone who lives in the continental US.
* Someone who knows that Australia is not in Europe (you'd be amazed how many people seem to think we're responsible for cuckoo clocks).
* Someone with a PayPal account who can receive payment by credit card.
* Someone with easy access to strong cardboard boxes and packing tape.
* Someone who finds it easy to get to a post office and doesn't mind making a couple trips.
* Someone who can calculate postage.
* Someone with a little time on your hands and enough space to store a few parcels for a few weeks.
A penchant for cheesedip is optional.
Oh, and I just realised that Kohl's doesn't accept offshore credit cards, so you'll also need to be (just this once):
* Someone with a US credit card and billing address willing to purchase something on my behalf on your own credit card (after receiving paypal payment from me obviously).
If you meet all the above criteria and are interested in helping out an Aussie-Groo-fan, please send me an email off the list. Please cc it to an email address that I'll spell out to avoid the evil spam-masters, viz:

This eudoramail account gets so much spam that I sometimes miss important things. I'll even tell you my real name if you ask nicely and promise not to use it in public.
Sorry, but I can't think of any way to demonstrate that this is not a scam. The best I can do is refer you to my ebay feedback rating by following this link: http://cgi2.ebay.com.au/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewFeedback&userid=fergusmaximus&items=25
If that doesn't work, just do a search for member "fergusmaximus".
Thanks for your time,
Ferg (aka Fergus Maximus)
