Well, day two at the Motor City Comic Con and guess who's back? Yup,
you guessed it. Hokey smoke, Bullwinkle, the pirates have returned.
But in smaller numbers and a few with a reduced inventory.
I got to question a few of those who returned. Apparently, the MPAA
received a tip that a couple of the pirates were selling new, A-list
movies. The guys I spoke with said they were specifically looking for
those selling Mission Impossible 3 and The DaVinci Code. Apparently,
the police just arrested everyone selling pirated videos and inventoried
everyone's wares. Those that were selling new, in-theatre movies were
taken to jail. Those that weren't were given a slap on the wrist and
let go. This particular merchant I spoke with said he was let go within
an hour and came back today.
The biggest offenders (that Janet and I noticed yesterday) aren't here
today with only two exceptions. We looked at their remaining
inventory. All their movies are completely gone -- new or old, there
was not a single feature film to be found. However, all the pirates
that returned were still selling all the same internet videos, adult
movies, and old television shows and cartoons that they had yesterday.
Sorry Mark, they still had the Complete Wuzzles on hand (and yes, I did
snuggle mine, today).
Like Groo in the resinkable pirate ship, our pirates came back again
today. But I'll bet a few of them will think twice before pirating
movies that are still in theatres again. Frankly, I'm a little
disappointed that's all they busted people for. But it's an improvement
over a few years ago.
