Mark always posts hints on his website just before the Con. Very useful.

You can pick up your badge Wednesday if you are pre-paid. Lines are much
shorter. On Thursday once things settle basically you walk in, making sure
the guards see your badge.

The Wednesday preview of the show floor now is as mobbed as the other 4
days. But it is a good chance to scout out the floor. The events guide will
be your bible. It has maps of the show floor and the Convention Center,
lists of events and a lot of useful info. Don't miss the Bud Plant
display--a catalog brought to life!

The food is overpriced. A supermarket is on one of the shuttle routes with a
deli. And the Horton Plaza mall has many cheap places--it is also on a
shuttle route (as a Con attendee you ride the shuttle for free).

Hotel reservations will be taken by the company the Con contracts with
sometime in Feb. It is a feeding fenzy--I spent 10 minutes dialing to get
placed on hold, then 15 minutes of waiting until I spoke to someone.
Announcements will be made on the website of the date/time this will open.

Bring comfortable shoes. The Con is HUGE. And attendance is incredible.
Psych yourself for massive crowds, especially each night when the show floor
shuts down.

Be prepared for the unexpected. This show encompasses all pop culture. I saw
an animated film that used a recording of the Tell Tale Heart made by Bela
Lugosi that was submitted to the film festival the con added a few years
ago. When would I have otherwise have seen that?

Bring tubes for art.

If you have special needs contact the Con in advance. They have a department
to coordinate for things like signing for the deaf, etc.

Good luck.
