[Groop] Groopedia Vandalized!

Well, the Wiki vandals work like the spammers. Its very easy for them to setup a program to go out and post links to their sites. 1 click = 1 million spams and thousands of wiki sites or anything else where anyone is allowed to post anything. SO, where is the money?

- 1 sorry bastard actually believes that his (or her partner's) privates will enlarge if they buy that fake pill and they send in their credit card info. Hello ID theft.
- 1 poor person believes their pay pal or bank account is at risk and they follow that fake link to the website, enter their info none the wiser, and hello ID theft.
- The websites you go to have Google or other advertisements on there that pay by the hit. They make even more money if you click upon the link
- Some of those websites need you to download their special plug in, you know, the one that allows you to see the pics and at the same time, its harvesting your computer for email addresses to spam and credit card info from cache files of your online purchases, oh and looking for those quicken account files for them to copy.
- Someone believes that they were sent a greeting card and click on the website that has protected you by saving the card to an exe file that you promptly download and run... minutes later your computer is then used along with 100s of other computers that downloaded that same virus to cyber attack websites or spam the rest of the world.
- Someone might see the Groo site and discover the "1 legged coal miner nekid wives" site they have always wanted to find but could not and so click and pay for a membership.

Since its all automated, just a small number of people doing it makes them enough money that its worth it to them.

There should be a law to stop them. Ok, we make it here in the US and those jerks in South Korea (the country with the most Internet connected computers per person), Russia (leaders of the infecting computer trojan horse programs), and Nigeria (leaders in ID theft) just get a good laugh at those silly US Laws.

If you go out and buy a computer with Windows XP on it (pre service pack 3) and plug it directly into the internet (no firewall and before adding anything to it), the computer will be infected with a virus in under 20 seconds.

The internet is not in the "ideal world of Star Trek" phase yet, its still working out the "wild west + biblical times" phase.

I am more than sure that everyone who reads this has up to date anti-virus software and anti-spyware software on their computer, not to mention a firewall of some sorts. To those who dont, thanks for allowing your computer to send the rest of us spam.

Great Scrubs quote -
Dr. Cox: I'm fairly sure that if they took all the porn off the internet, there'd only be one website left, and it would be called "Bring Back The Porn".

Mulch!
