Well all Windows XP machines are pre-service pack 3 right now.  Microsoft
currently states that SP3 should be out in the first half of 2008
hopefully.  Service Pack 2 gives you basic firewall that is better than
nothing.

Using a router (actually a level 3 switch) like Linksys adds another level
of security.  But as long as a computer is connected to the internet there
will always be some level of security threat.
