I just got vanity plates (custom license plates) for my car. As with everything else in my life, they come with a story!
Back in 1995 I got my first vanity plates, simply saying GROO. This was widely seen as a bad move, and led to my first published Grooism in GrooGrams after my car's engine immediately melted into a slag heap (overheated on a 2 hour drive, melted the engine block. BAD!) Yup, Groo killed my car.
So, I turned in the GROO plates and, living in the city, decided I didn't need a car anyway.
When I moved a couple of years later, I decided against the GROO plates, and didn't do anything special. Every once in a while, I'd consider getting special plates made up, but never took the plunge.
It's funny, my "new" used car is a 1995 Mercury Cougar, I didn't realize the significance of the year until, while registering it for the first time, I inquired about vanity plates.
"I used to have plates that said just GROO, do you know if they are still available?"
"Unlikely, here let me check... mmmmmm, nope, they are taken - oh wait, it's you! They've been held in your name since 1995! We normally only hold them 2 years!"
Karma? Good karma, bad karma? Who knows!?
Either way, the Groomobile lives again!
