[Groop] Larry coming to Los Angeles

I knew I wasn't going to make the Groop meet, but OH WOW I just paid for the airline tickets, arriving at 3:08 pm in Santa Ana (John Wayne Airport). It would be in excess of a 2 hour ride to get there, and the event is 5pm-7pm. TRICKY! Mighty tempting, but I think my Mom might be upset if I dropped her off and split for 3-4 hours.
The reason for the trip is to take care of some of my elderly Aunt's affairs, so first stop has to be to go see her. She's 96 years old and frail, but very sound of mind. I don't believe there are immediate health concerns, but she seems convinced her end is near, so who knows what the reality is?
We had been discussing a Friday flight, if only I had checked with you guys earlier today I might have made it. Still, I should be able to check out the exhibit on Sunday or Monday. We'll see.

Hey Larry! 

   

I’m afraid your timing for meeting
up with Groopies in Ojai is a little off.  We will be there on Sunday
August 30th, the Sunday after next.  That day there is a “Sunday
Gathering” or some such name in which Sergio will be giving a talk about
cartooning.  I think it costs $8.   

   

As Dana noted, the August 22nd reception
sounds like a more formal affair and costs $25 with advance reservations
apparently required.  Eric’s guess, and mine, is that this is when
the artsy Ojai crowd will show up.   

   

Also as Dana noted, Ojai is not a hop,
skip, and a jump from LA.  From LAX to Ojai is about 85 miles. So you
would need the better part of a whole day to get out there, take in the
exhibition, and get back to LA.   

   

But maybe that could work out for you.

  Can someone remind me when Sergio's exhibition
  starts? I just made plans to fly out to LA on important family business,
  taking care of a 96 year old Aunt. I may have no time to do anything, but if
  Icould meet up with Groopies at some point,and perhaps get out to Ohai, I'd
