So can I begin to tell you all that weren't there how amazing Balance
was Saturday night at the King King. I'll even go as far as saying that it
was better than the night Heather played. The night started off like any other
night with the resident Kenny playing his usual deep house that's good I
guess for starting out the night. On a side note, Sue, you should have Kenny and
Toddley rotate or something, maybe to change it up a little. Just my opinion.
OK, anyways, back to the night. At about 12:40 Carlos Mendoza, part of the
Lawn Chair Generals, took over. And all I can say is hot damn. That's What
House Is About! Carlos was throwing down some of the most booty shakin, hands
clapping, bangin house tracks that I have ever heard. He reminded me of old
Doc. You know the old Doc that rocked Ju Ju Beats at Santa's Village like 6 or
7 years ago. If that wasn't enough he played about 7 or 8 tracks that
brought me back to the mid 90s. And he played a new bootleg version of my favorite
song "Midas Touch" by Midnight Star. It sounded slower like the original, not
like the faster remake Josh Wink did. It was dope. On another side, all you
DJ's that have old records wipe off the dust and start putting them back in
your rotation. All the young kids will think they are new, and for all of us ol
d mutha fucka's it will bring back memories. Yay for Cade and Zack throwing
the Solid Gold parties. Anyways, again back to Balance. At about 2:30 the
crowd started to thin a little which made for some more dancing room, always a
bonus. I have to admit, though the place was packed the crowd seemed to be
loving the night even without much room to dance. Around 3 am Tim Finn from New
Zealand took over. He didn't even skip a beat and was able to continue the
flow of energy that Carlos was laying down. His style was a little mellower
than Carlos, but still had me and the remaining crowd rocking out. Tim's record
selection was dope because he played a lot of records that I have never heard,
which is always nice. All in all by far one of the best nights that I have
had in a long time. And in my opinion one of the top nights at Balance. Oh
ya, it was good to see Fabian, Amy, and Mark come out of hiding.
Matt
