Yes, Oso was based on a real dog in the Aragones household at the time.
(And just a very nit picky amendment to your trivia-Rufferto isn't a Blue
Heeler; "blue" is the name for the varition of the breed whose primary
coloring are shades of black and gray intead of browns like Rufferto. But as
you indicated, they are all Australian Cattle dogs.)
