[Groop] Not OT.

I concur. While I will always support Sergio, Mark and the rest of the GROO crew (shelling out kopins for new issues), my favorite Groo stories will always be the ones pre-Rufferto.

As a writer, I understand that the best works of fantasy exist, in many ways, as a metaphor for life. However, the most powerful fairy tales wrap the "lesson" more thoroughly in the adventure. Lately, the storylines in GROO often come across as a little too political or heavy-handed for my tastes (one of the reasons I read Groo is to gain a momentary respite from politics). I sincerely hope that, somewhere down the line, the creators of GROO alternate more frequently between these real-world issues and the more plot-based "adventure-style" storylines of old . . .

Since we are being honest here, I'll go ahead and make people
mad by saying I like Groo better when he was solo (no dog). Don't get me wrong,
I love every issue of Groo and will be reading/buying until the end. I just
know my most favorite issues are all of them before Rufferto came along.

You also have to think about how old you are and how you see
things now. I was 12 when I bought my first Groo (Epic #8) and you are lying if
you say you are as excited to see a new Groo now as you were a new Groo back
then.

Here is an easier way to put it... Indiana Jones 4 sucked. Would
it still have sucked if it came out when you were the same age as Raiders or
Temple of Doom? Probably a hell of a lot less. I loved Temple of Doom, but I’m
not so sure I’d love it if my fist time seeing it was right now.

I've
got some questions for some of you fine folks. I realize that ME is a part of
the list, which is great... but it seems there are certain things we don't
discuss here because of his presence. Perhaps he can skip this thread
altogether.

1. I'm wondering what some of your actual opinions are regarding the quality of
the Groo stories since the guys moved to Dark Horse. Compared in
particular to the Epic run. Am I the only one who sees them as heavy
handed and not as fun as "classic" Groo?

2. How do you rate the 4-part stories against the old stand alone
issues? What are the plusses/minuses of either format?
