[Groop] NYC Brawl: It's All About the Pants!

Hi Folks!

OK, let's get one thing straight. Mark getting so bent out of shape
about Larry thinking "The Dick Van Dyke Show" is overrated that he
hauled off and slugged him has nothing to do with his high esteem for
the generally brilliant writing and deft comic acting of that highly
regarded show. Oh no!! And the fact that Mark has been a successful
comedy writer for 35 years, working on numerous TV shows, and has better
insights into the subtleties that go into making a great comedy than
most of us has nothing to do with why he lunged across the table and
wrestled Larry to the ground. No, that's not it at all.

It's really all about the pants. Specifically, Capri pants and the fact
that Mary Tyler Moore was inside them. Yes, I'm afraid Mark made a
spectacle of himself and brutalized poor Larry over a perceived insult
to his adolescent fantasy girl. After 40+ years, he's still hung up on
the 60's version of Mary Tyler Moore and how great she looked in her
Capri pants. It's really sad when a 50-something year old man can't get
past his teenage fantasies. (Which reminds me, if anyone dares to say
that Raquel Welch didn't deserve an Oscar for her fur bikini-clad
performance in 1,000,000 Years B.C., I'll jump all over them!)

Gary G.
