NYC Brawl: It's All About the Pants!Hold on Gary, not a fair comparison.
Now, both Raquel Welch and Mary Tyler Moore are sort of before my time, but I can still see them objectively from their work when they were in their prime. At best Moore is cute, maybe even pretty, but Welch could make even the most eloquent and self confident man a stammering drooling idiot. Whoa!

I grew up seeing The Dick Van Dyke show and the Mary Tyler Moore show in syndication on TV, she never seemed anything other than standard fare. I think the first time I saw Raquel Welch, I think it was the one you mention (or some other such one that had her well "dressed") at about 13 years of age. Lets just say I had an awakening of sorts. None of the so called "hotties" of my own time ('80's) ever did that to me. Aye yi yi....

  Hi Folks!

OK, let's get one thing straight. Mark getting so bent out of shape about Larry thinking "The Dick Van Dyke Show" is overrated that he hauled off and slugged him has nothing to do with his high esteem for the generally brilliant writing and deft comic acting of that highly regarded show. Oh no!! And the fact that Mark has been a successful comedy writer for 35 years, working on numerous TV shows, and has better insights into the subtleties that go into making a great comedy than most of us has nothing to do with why he lunged across the table and wrestled Larry to the ground. No, that's not it at all.

It's really all about the pants. Specifically, Capri pants and the fact that Mary Tyler Moore was inside them. Yes, I'm afraid Mark made a spectacle of himself and brutalized poor Larry over a perceived insult to his adolescent fantasy girl. After 40+ years, he's still hung up on the 60's version of Mary Tyler Moore and how great she looked in her Capri pants. It's really sad when a 50-something year old man can't get past his teenage fantasies. (Which reminds me, if anyone dares to say that Raquel Welch didn't deserve an Oscar for her fur bikini-clad performance in 1,000,000 Years B.C., I'll jump all over them!)

  Gary G.
